Cavity-Backed Slot-Coupled Patch Antenna Array With Dual Slant Polarization for Millimeter-Wave Base Station Applications

This article presents a novel dual slant polarized antenna for millimeter-wave (mmWave) base stations. Compared with the traditional mmWave antennas, proposed offers advantages of high cross-polarization discrimination (XPD), good aperture efficiency, simple structure, and low profile. The corner-fed substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity is adopted to improve port isolation XPD this slot-coupled antenna. Four corner-truncated patches connected by thin cross strip are placed over SIW increase operation bandwidth. Then, 2 × 8 array designed exemplify element performance. To impedance matching, shorted patch introduced in designing series feeding network power divider. experimental results show that dB-down gain bandwidth reaches 6.0% better than 20 dB. measure 16.7 dBi 25 dB at center frequency, respectively.
